Fellwood active abilities
What you fire yourself, why the target matters, and when to stop letting the camp idle.
Fellwood is idle-friendly. It is also a game with a Mouse Only Steam flag and a store bullet for powerful active abilities. The Steam thread “What are active abilities and how do you use them?” exists because the tutorial is short and the interesting buttons are easy to miss. This page names the actions that only you can take. Automatic fire still pays the rent. Manual play pays the luck.
Drag-aim from a building
Select an attacker. Click and drag away from it, then release toward a tree. That is a manual projectile. It has a cooldown. It is not the same as the worker volley. Archers curve. Fireballs need a long pull-back that the back row often cannot provide. Ballistas fly straight, pierce on a good manual shot, and then disappoint you with a 20-second automatic interval. Ice shards are the comfort pick for people who miss a lot. Axes are the comfort pick for people who do not.
Hitting the glowing target on a tree deals bonus damage. Missing still hits the world, usually. The bonus is why you bother. Prestige can raise that bonus. If you never drag-aim, you are leaving a multiplier on the table and you will be helpless when clovers spawn. Practice on the front-most tree from Getting Started before you stack three wizards in a canyon.
Pile push and Sawmill pull
Clicking the log pile shoves timber toward the Sawmill. Height matters. Click too low and the stack barely flinches. Click the crown and you can juggle a log in the air — useful for reading a rare log’s value before a collector snatches it, useless as a strategy. Prestige upgrades add push radius, push force, and the mill’s pull range. Pull range is the closest thing Fellwood has to “I am done clicking.” Until you own it, you are an extra collector. Details live on Collectors and Sawmill.
You can keep clicking while a log is airborne. That is a toy. The real active loop is: shoot target → shove pile → shoot clover → open the level-up pack before it covers the mill. Hotfix 1.0.1 added delay before a pack can be selected because people were eating accidental clicks. If a box still pops on top of a shot, that is the bug the patch tried to kill — mention it on Patch Notes if you are filing mental notes.
Clovers are a manual event
Random events include wind that pushes four-leaf clovers across the screen. Shooting them with your projectiles increases luck until the next prestige. Worker shots do not count. That single rule turns active play from a minigame into a prestige plan. Luck raises log rarity and card rarity. Card rarity is how you see prestige-point cards. If you AFK through a clover wind, you donated a shop. Full event list: Events. Spend the luck before you reset — How to Prestige talks about that timing.
Lightning striking the pile is the opposite kind of event: mostly automatic, needs a fat stack (around fifty live logs in the demo notes), and explodes value in a radius. You still might shove the newly expensive logs toward the mill by hand so collectors do not wander.
When to play active vs AFK
Play active when:
- You are in the first twenty minutes and the mill is hungry.
- Clovers are on screen.
- You are hunting a tree evolution and need acorns not to be eaten instantly.
- You are trying to hit a damage achievement such as the “1Q dmg” thread on Steam — Achievements lists the named icons we can confirm.
Go idle when:
- Pull range is online and collectors keep the lane clear.
- You are waiting on prestige drip and no event is running.
- You are on a Deck in handheld mode and drag-aim is fighting the gyro. Then read Controls instead of forcing shots.
Sibling pages: Attack Buildings for which projectile is even worth aiming; Wizards for fireball pull-back pain; Buildings Hub for not dumping every active shot into Electro Wizard. Manual play does not override additive damage. It just makes the additive camp luckier.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions Fellwood players ask after their first prestige.
What are active abilities in Fellwood?
Manual drag-aim shots, pile pushes, and event interactions such as shooting four-leaf clovers. Workers cannot grant clover luck.
Do automatic shots hit the tree target bonus?
The bonus is for landing the manual target shot. Automatic volleys still deal damage; they are not the same ability.
Should I stay active the whole run?
No. Play active for clovers, hungry mills, and first-hour targeting. Idle once Sawmill pull and collectors hold the lane.
